Diversified Career Preparation Class - May 2008

AACAL

While traditional education is the basis for success, today's business world increasingly demands experience as an important quality in employees. By offering a program through which students can obtain invaluable workplace experience, the Amarillo Area Center for Advanced Learning is providing that opportunity. In AACAL's Diversified Career Preparation class, students participate in nonpaid internships in the fields of engineering, computer science, and animal science in addition to their regular high school coursework. As a group, these students have also completed over 400 hours of community service, and have learned the importance of giving back. Teacher Katie Smith comments that these students have developed "leadership, integrity, and a great work ethic," traits that will surely aid them in the business world. At the cutting edge of education in the Panhandle, Principal Karen Tomlinson denotes these kids as "exceptional." Congratulations!
