Enjoyment found through education

Cody Hamilton
Age: 26
Occupation: Public relations coordinator, Amarillo Habitat for Humanity

Where did you receive your education?
Attending Amarillo College, pursuing a degree in marketing.

How has your education played a role in your life today?
Education is one of the primary focuses of my life today. Education has given me the opportunity to find out what it is I truly enjoy, and it gives me the opportunity to improve myself in those areas.

What was your greatest educational challenge and how did you overcome it?
My greatest educational challenge was committing to going back to school. It was hard to go back after taking time off. Today I struggle with finding the balance between work, school and my personal life.

What is the value of your education?
Furthering my education and pursuing a degree is something I can do to improve my life. With an education comes more and different job opportunities, and I am excited to see what the future may hold for me.

What would you say to someone who's undecided about continuing their education?
I would definitely recommend continuing your education, in whatever capacity. By not doing so, you will limit yourself on opportunities for advancement in the future and personal fulfillment.

When did you make education a priority?
Education became a priority to me fairly recently. I started college right after high school, but I wasn't ready. I had to have some time to be young and have fun. I needed the opportunity to grow and discover who I was and what I really wanted out of life.

What made you realize the importance of education in your life?
My job actually made me realize how important education is. I saw an amazing opportunity in front of me, but I didn't have the skills or knowledge to reach my goals. Education is the means for me to acquire both.

Did you ever think about quitting? What made you keep going?
I did quit going for several years, but I finally realized that my life wasn't going to improve professionally unless I took the initiative to change it.
